XMEN: Dark Pheonix

WORK DESCRIPTION:

For X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the work involved the creation of a large-scale digital night-time environment designed specifically for use as an on-set backdrop. Based on production references and creative direction, a highly detailed digital matte painting of an urban building façade was developed at extremely high resolution to withstand large-format printing.

The final image was printed on an oversized fabric panel and installed outside the hotel room set constructed on stage, following the traditional backlot method. This practical approach enabled the filmmakers to shoot an entire sequence within a controlled studio environment while maintaining the realistic illusion of an exterior view through the window.

The digital backdrop ensured consistent lighting, perspective accuracy, and visual continuity across multiple camera angles, providing the production with a reliable and efficient solution that reduced the need for on-location night shoots or extensive post-production compositing.

STORYLINE:

In X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face one of their most powerful and dangerous challenges when Jean Grey is transformed by a cosmic force during a rescue mission in space. As her abilities grow beyond control, the team struggles to save both their friend and the world from the destructive power she cannot contain.

Caught between loyalty, fear, and moral conflict, the X-Men confront the consequences of their past decisions while an external alien threat seeks to exploit Jean’s extraordinary new strength for its own purposes.
