RIDDICK - VIN DIESEL

RIDDICK (UNIVERSAL PICTURES)

WORK DESCRIPTION:

STARNO collaborated with Raynault FX on the third installment of the cult sci-fi franchise, Riddick, starring Vin Diesel. The primary focus was the creation of extensive matte paintings to build the hostile, sun-scorched planet where the protagonist is left for dead.

The mandate involved designing and executing "alien" environments that felt truly otherworldly. This included the development of desolate, rocky landscapes, jagged geological formations, and dramatic, strange skyboxes that defined the planet's atmosphere. Working closely with the visual effects team, we ensured that the matte paintings blended seamlessly with the live-action plates, enhancing the sense of isolation and danger throughout the film.

Each digital environment was crafted to reflect the harsh conditions of the narrative, using advanced lighting and texturing techniques to achieve a photorealistic result that supports the unique visual identity established by director David Twohy.

STORYLINE:

Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against a race of alien predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick's past.

To survive, Riddick must navigate the treacherous landscape and outsmart the lethal bounty hunters before a massive storm reaches the planet, bringing with it a threat far more terrifying than anything he has faced before.
