OPPO MOBILE – COLONIZING THE RED PLANET

WORK DESCRIPTION:

STARNO.net collaborated with Toronto-based Maverick VFX to produce a visually arresting 30-second spot for Oppo Mobile. The creative vision for this campaign was to present a distant future where human civilization has successfully terraformed and inhabited Mars, drawing a parallel between the boundary-pushing technology of Oppo and the ultimate frontier of human exploration.

Our primary contribution was the creation of a high-fidelity Cosmic Matte Painting of Mars. Unlike a static astronomical image, our version of the Red Planet features sprawling metropolitan lights visible across its dark side, signaling a fully colonized and thriving world. This required a meticulous layering process to integrate urban glow, atmospheric hazes, and planetary textures that feel both scientifically grounded and cinematically epic.

To bring the final shot to life, the artwork was built in multiple digital layers. This allowed for subtle animation—such as the shimmering of city lights and the movement of orbital elements—ensuring that the planet felt like a living, breathing environment. The result is a seamless piece of world-building that anchors the commercial’s futuristic narrative.

By positioning their brand within a sci-fi context, Oppo Mobile communicates a message of innovation and global (and interplanetary) connectivity. The use of High-End Visual Effects serves to elevate the brand's premium status, making a lasting impression on a tech-savvy audience.
