STARNO had the privilege of collaborating with the world-renowned studio Rodeo FX to provide high-end Digital Matte Painting for the visual masterpiece accompanying Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s "Missionary" project. This collaboration required a multi-faceted approach, combining sprawling urban environments with detailed character work.
Our contribution included a massive aerial extension of the Los Angeles skyline, creating a hyper-realistic, cinematic version of the city. Beyond the exterior, STARNO was responsible for the complete design and final execution of the "Aftermath Gangster Bar." This iconic interior setting serves as a central hub for several key scenes in the music video, requiring a gritty, authentic atmosphere that reflects the legacy of the Aftermath brand.
In addition to environment work, STARNO applied digital matte painting techniques for age-reversal and facial modifications on both Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. This subtle yet complex digital cosmetic work ensured the artists' appearances perfectly matched the narrative timeline of the music video, bridging the gap between their legendary past and the present.
Reunited for the first time in decades for a full-length project, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre return with Missionary. The visual content for the album is a cinematic tribute to their roots in West Coast hip-hop, blending the aesthetic of 90s gangster cinema with modern, high-gloss production values.
The music video serves as a narrative journey through Los Angeles, moving from the soaring heights of the city's skyscrapers to the smoke-filled rooms of underground bars. It celebrates the enduring partnership of two of music's most influential figures, using cutting-edge visual effects to tell a story of legacy, power, and the evolution of the G-Funk era.
