For the 2019 Québec feature film Menteur, the team collaborated with Alchemy 24 to develop a wide range of digital environment enhancements tailored to the film’s comedic and narrative needs. The work required significant visual diversity, involving the creation, alteration, and aging of multiple settings central to the story of Simon Aubert, portrayed by Louis-José Houde.
Tasks included distressing, dirtying, and aging the interior environments of Simon’s apartment and home, digitally demolishing a large white truck, adding floral elements to the façade of a house, and transforming industrial buildings in aerial views. One of the more imaginative assignments involved designing a fictional bar composed entirely of glass and stained-glass structures, blending realism with stylized creativity.
This project was both engaging and rewarding, made even more enjoyable thanks to the ongoing collaboration with Alchemy 24, whose team always brings professionalism, clarity, and enthusiasm to every project.
Menteur follows the chaotic life of Simon Aubert, a man whose compulsive lying has strained his relationships, alienated those around him, and turned everyday situations into a series of escalating misunderstandings. After one lie too many, Simon suddenly finds his fabrications becoming reality, forcing him to confront the absurd consequences of the stories he invented.
As his world spirals into chaos—filled with impossible scenarios, damaged relationships, and the literal manifestation of his most exaggerated claims—Simon must embark on a journey of self-reflection and honesty. With humor, heart, and vibrant characters, the film explores themes of truth, accountability, and personal growth, ultimately guiding Simon toward a deeper understanding of the impact of his behavior on the people he cares about.
