STARNO.net was proud to be part of a massive international mega-production for Kia Motors, involving top-tier creative teams from France and South Korea. This ambitious cinematic film reimagines the classic tale of Peter Pan within a high-tech, cyberpunk aesthetic. The narrative culminates in an epic sword fight between Peter Pan and Captain Hook atop a skyscraper, designed to showcase Kia's vision for the future of mobility.
Our studio’s primary challenge was the creation of a massive 360-degree futuristic cityscape. This environment serves as the backdrop for over 20 high-octane shots. To provide total creative freedom for the camera movement during the complex choreography, we developed a sophisticated Spherical Matte Painting. This digital environment was projected onto a full sphere, ensuring that every angle of the city was immersive, consistent, and photorealistic.
To bring the city to life, we organized the matte painting into numerous dynamic layers. This allowed us to animate specific elements independently—such as glowing neon signage, holographic advertisements, and atmospheric city lights. This technical granularity was essential to match the cinematic production value of the live-action sets, creating a seamless blend between the physical actors and our digital metropolis.
This visual effects breakdown showcases the integration of our 360-degree spherical environment. By building a complete digital world, we enabled the production to execute complex camera rotations and high-speed action sequences while maintaining a consistent, high-tech cyberpunk atmosphere across every frame.
As a production of this scale, the Kia Peter Pan project required a perfect synergy between various international departments. The complexity of managing a full 360-degree environment for a fast-paced action sequence demanded extreme precision in digital world-building.
By separating the city lights and architectural details into manageable layers, STARNO.net was able to adjust the lighting mood on the fly to match the intensity of the duel. The result is a visually stunning piece of advertising that feels more like a feature film than a commercial, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in modern VFX.
