STARNO.net was commissioned to provide high-end visual effects for two poignant 30-second television spots for Le Groupe Maurice, a leader in senior living communities in Quebec. The creative concept was to pay tribute to the rich life stories of the residents by literally "entering" their past through historical archive photographs.
Our mandate was to transform static, flat archival photos into dynamic 3D environments. To achieve this "living memory" effect, we utilized a sophisticated blend of 3D Camera Projection and Digital Matte Painting. This technique allowed us to break the photos down into multiple spatial planes, reconstructing missing details behind foreground objects and extending the environments so the camera could travel deep inside the image with realistic parallax and depth.
By breathing life into these frozen moments in time, we created a seamless bridge between the past and the present. Every shot required a surgical eye for detail to maintain the authenticity of the original historical documents while providing a modern, cinematic immersion that resonates emotionally with the audience.
The Le Groupe Maurice campaign celebrates the legacy and humanity of its residents. By using Advanced Photo Animation, STARNO.net helped the brand stand out with a unique visual language that honors tradition through innovation. The result is a nostalgic yet technologically advanced aesthetic that perfectly supports the brand's values of respect and dignity.
At STARNO.net, we specialize in Environment World Building—even when that world starts as a single 2D photograph. This project demonstrates our ability to combine historical research with cutting-edge VFX to create storytelling that is as technically precise as it is emotionally powerful.
